Visiting St. Augustine in the Fall Makes for an Amazing Trip

Fall in St. Augustine is unlike fall anywhere else. Here in St. Augustine, the beginning of Fall is a sigh of relief for some residents; this means the hot, humid air is on its way out, making room for the cool, brisk autumn air to begin making its appearance. Although we love the summer weather, once fall makes its way in it gives residents and tourists alike the chance to take in the change and indulge in more outdoor activities, or even just crack open the windows and enjoy the fresh air. Fortunately, there are so many reasons (and activities) to visit during the fall season here in St. Augustine that will not disappoint!

  1. Go to the Sykes Family Farm: The Sykes Family Farm is a family owned farm located in Elkton, Florida. This farm features over nine acres of family-oriented fun perfect for both residents and tourists. At the Sykes Family Farm you will find a huge corn maze, multiple playgrounds and jump pads, and even farm animals on display. This event is open through the end of October, and is the perfect way to get some fresh fall air! General admission is $15, but if you hold a military ID, you get $2 off admission!
  1. Go and pick the perfect pumpkin: If you are on a mission to find the perfect pumpkin this season, look no further. Pay a visit to the First United Methodist Church located on King Street in downtown St. Augustine. Here you will be faced with hundreds of pumpkins of all sizes to choose from. They are open from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. throughout the month of October, admission is free, and pumpkin prices range from .50 cents to $35! Also, if you pay a visit to the Sykes Family Farm, you will also have the opportunity to pick pumpkins they have grown on site!
  1. Take a ride on St. Augustine’s Ghost Tours: St. Augustine is known for its trolley tours, but did you know they have ghost tours too? Choose a crisp fall night and climb aboard one of the Ripley’s Ghost Trolleys, or take a tour on foot around St. Augustine for a chance to have your own unique ghost encounter. You can choose to take the Ghosts and Gravestones Tour, where you ride throughout St. Augustine on a trolley while you are told stories about paranormal activity all over town. This tour also features stops at the Old Jail and Potter’s Wax museum. Ghost Tours of St. Augustine also offers ghost tours throughout St. Augustine including paranormal activity tours and haunted pub crawls.
  1. Go surfing: If scary isn’t your thing, we’ve got you covered. Make your way to Crescent Beach or St. Augustine beach during the Fall season to surf. During the Fall, you will find some of the best surfing conditions of the year. Don’t miss out!
  1. Take a Stroll around the Nation’s Oldest City: This time of the year more than ever, we recommend just taking a walk around the city. The temperatures sit at a brisk 70 degrees at night and the humidity is reduced, making it the perfect conditions to get out and enjoy some fresh air. Also, the Fall season is the least busy season of the year, meaning that you will not encounter the crazy crowds like you would during the Summer or Winter, so expect shorter lines and a more relaxed feel.
  1. Go beer and spirit tasting: This time of the year is a perfect time to go around town to the distilleries and breweries. Throughout town, the breweries and distilleries will feature in-house seasonal brews and cocktails you won’t find anywhere else. Here is a blog post with more recommendations on breweries you can visit, as well as a post about local distilleries.

The Nation’s Oldest City has so much to offer, even during the fall season. Visiting us during Fall will be an experience you and your family will never forget, and so many memories will be made. Be sure to book with us at Beacher’s Lodge for an unforgettable vacation to the Historical East Coast.
